The Kansas City Chiefs played their preseason friendly on Sunday. But it seems that information may have skipped Patrick Mahomes‘ mind. He was jumping with joy when the Chiefs scored a crucial touchdown against the New Orleans Saints.

It did not start well for the Chiefs at Caesars Stadium, as the Saints took a 17-0 lead. The arena was buzzing to see the defending champions struggling to cope with debutant Derek Carr‘s accurate passing. However, in football, things quickly change.

The Chiefs’ stand-in quarterback Blaine Gabbert‘s second-quarter red zone pass to sixth-year wide receiver Richie James started the comeback. In the third quarter, on the 3rd and 7th, Gabbert’s replacement, Shane Buechele, danced past two Saints pass rushers, Kyle Phillips and Malcolm Roach. With only safety Tyrann Mathieu to beat, Buechele fired an arrowing pass to an unmarked Kekoa Crawford in the red zone. Touchdown.

All eyes went to the sidelines as the current Super Bowl MVP, Patrick Mahomes, went berserk. Throwing his fists in the air, he could be heard screaming, “Let’s go. let’s go.”

Even though it’s preseason, you have to have that same energy you have in the regular season,” Patrick Mahomes told the reporters. That enthusiasm almost rubbed off on the Chiefs’ players as they went ahead by seven points.

However, in the dying embers of the game, the New Orleans Saints got back into the game. One might think they were playing Madden as the ball went back and forth. They won the game as kicker Blake Grupe added three points from a 25-yard penalty.

The NFL fandom was hoping to see a little glimpse of Patrick Mahomes in the preseason opener. Their wish did come true, as head coach Andy Reid allowed the Pro Bowler a little stretch.

Even though his appearance was brief, it was eventful. He made a daring play as he was charged by the Saints’ OLBs, opting for a drive rather than a throw. Something that could have ended badly for Mahomes and Reid.

“It was good to get out there again,” Patrick Mahomes told the reporters. “I was a little pumped up.” He has to if the Chiefs want to bounce back in the next game. (H/T: Mirror)

Despite their loss, the Kansas City Chiefs have some positives to take from the game. They can take heart, as their reserves came back from 17 points down and even took the lead. It shows their backups are capable of stepping up if needed. They will be put to the test once more against the Arizona Cardinals on August 20.
