Ever since Chris Jones and Patrick Mahomes declared that they would battle for the three-peat at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl Victory Parade, it was a clear sign that Jones wanted to remain in Missouri.

On top of that, the All-Pro defensive tackle was providing frequent social media hints that he was close to striking a deal.

The Athletic‘s Dianna Russini revealed that the Chiefs were deep into negotiations.

While Jones could hit free agency, there is optimism the Chiefs will retain him. The Super Bowl champs are locked in on locking up their best player, not named Patrick Mahomes.
Russini reported

On Saturday, news broke that Jones and the Chiefs had agreed to a 5-year extension. While the details of the contract are yet to be made public, ESPN’s Adam Schefter claimed that the 29-year-old could become the highest-paid DT in the league.

Jones shared another post on X (formerly Twitter) with Emjoi’s signifying the signing of the contract.

Shortly after, Mahomes retweeted the post with a smiley emoji.

Fortunately for the Chiefs quarterback, he doesn’t have to go through the tension of not having his friend cover him like last time. The Chiefs were locked in a similar situation before the start of the 2023 season. Jones finally agreed to a one-year deal, but by then they had already played the first game of the campaign.

Several Chiefs teammates congratulate Chris Jones, besides Patrick Mahomes

Of course, Mahomes wasn’t the only Chiefs teammate who was happy that one of the key members of the squad was staying. One by one, several familiar faces shared how overjoyed they were with the extension.

Never in doubt.
Chiefs fanatic and FOX Sports analyst Nick Wright shared

Well, now that Chris Jones’ contact is done and dusted, all eyes will switch to L’Jarius Sneed. The Chiefs decided to franchise tag the star cornerback for $19 million.

With Chris Jones officially back in the fold, all eyes now turn to CB L’Jarius Sneed, who was franchise-tagged and has permission to seek a trade. The belief is that a 2nd-round pick could be the sweet spot for a trade.

Notably, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Atlanta Falcons are the front runners.
