The Chicago Bears have a problem that most teams in the league wouldn’t mind having. They are currently holding the number 1 draft pick and could end up drafting the generational prospect Caleb Williams to replace their current start quarterback, Justin Fields. Amidst this, the Kansas City Chiefs franchise QB Patrick Mahomes shares his opinion on what the Bears should do with their No.1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
During the Super Bowl LVIII opening night festivities on Monday, the Chiefs QB was asked by reporters whether the Bears should pass on Caleb Williams as they passed on him during the 2017 NFL Draft. Mahomes replied he is just glad that he is not getting paid to make that hard decision to choose between Fields and Williams.
That’s a hard one. I’m glad I don’t get paid to make those decisions. But Justin Fields plays great football as well. I think either way, they’re in a good position for the future. It’s just about which way they want to make that decision.Patrick Mahomes told the media
Mahomes was passed on by the Bears for Mitchell Trubisky during the 2017 Draft. It turned out to be one of the worst decisions made by the Chicago-based football team in their history. Now, they have a chance to correct that mistake by drafting Williams, who has been compared with Mahomes a lot due to similar playstyle.
However, if Williams ends up being a bust, it will haunt the Bears since they would have chosen him over Justin Fields, who has shown improvement year after year in the league.
Nonetheless, it is one of the most discussed topics among football fans and experts. The San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle was asked a similar question, and he advised the Bears to keep Fields as their QB and build a solid supporting cast around him.
Patrick Mahomes has high praise for the USC Trojans QB Caleb Williams
While the Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes was addressing the media during the Super Bowl opening day event, he was asked about the projected No.1 overall draft pick, Caleb Williams. Mahomes had high praise for the USC Trojans QB, who had a great college career.
If you’re able to have the success that he’s had at the college level, it’s going to translate. It’s just about getting in the right system and continuing to try to get better.
Patrick Mahomes said
Williams had a great career in college, where he won the Heisman Trophy. He is now being seen as the greatest QB prospect to come out of college since Andrew Luck. Yes, many believe he is a better prospect than Trevor Lawrence.
Nonetheless, Patrick Mahomes wouldn’t be worried about the Bears’ problems. He would now be focused on defeating the 49ers in the Super Bowl game to win the third championship title in his career.
