Patrick Mahomes went into the Denver Broncos game with a 16-game win streak, and judging by their form, it was more than likely to be 17. But that wasn’t the case, as the Kansas City Chiefs went down 24-9 in a Sunday night shocker.

It was the first time that Mahomes has lost a game against any AFC West opponent in his illustrious NFL career. But then again, he may not have even played in the cold, snowy weather of Denver. The 28-year-old was reportedly suffering from the flu and had to take some IV shots prior to landing at Mile High.

Yeah, I just started feeling bad last night. But I’ve bounced back pretty well in the morning.

As evident from the single-digit scoreline the Chiefs put up, it’s easy to guess that he has had better days. Mahomes’ 24 completions from 38 for 241 yards and 2 interceptions resulted in his second-lowest quarterback rating in an NFL game. The lowest (57.3) also came on Dec. 5, 2021, against the Broncos.

It’s fair to speculate that it’s one of those anecdotes that the two-time Super Bowl winner would want to scrape from his memory. Not entirely, though some of the plays after analysis could prove valuable for future references. When asked about whether this loss could be the start of a series of losses, Patrick Mahomes replied:

 No, it won't be.

Patrick Mahomes knows that other teams will take a closer look at how the Denver Broncos beat them

When the Super Bowl champs come to town, there’s always a massive expectation that they will be the overwhelming favorites to win almost every game. However, similar to their opening-day defeat against the Detroit Lions, the Broncos game will be a hot topic in all the team boardrooms that are scheduled to face them.

Patrick Mahomes understood that very well. It’s not every day for a team that had just won two games before Sunday’s fixture to concede only a little over 270 yards. Other teams will study the methods and tactics implied by Broncos head coach Sean Payton.

Teams are going to replicate it and try to find different versions of it. Two of the last three weeks, they’ve seen the Broncos stifle our offense.

Maybe a change of scenery will bring some positives with it. The Chiefs travel to Germany to face a tough ask of playing the Miami Dolphins.
