The debate between grass vs. turf fields is the hottest topic in the NFL world right now, following the New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers‘ unfortunate injury that ended his season. In reality, there is no debate, since the majority of players prefer grass fields over turf. In that trend, the Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has also made his stance clear on the debate.
“I think it’s pretty simple, the numbers say that grass is healthier for the players,” Mahomes said during the press conference on Wednesday according to Wesley Roesch of USA Today. “I want to play on the best surface that will keep me healthy.”
With that stance, Mahomes became the most recent player to endorse grass over turf. Apart from Mahomes, plenty of other players including the Green Bay Packers OT David Bakhtiari and the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel also spoke out against the use of turf fields after Rodgers’ disastrous injury.
After many players voiced their opinion, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell came out and said that some players prefer grass over turf and other people prefer to play on turf over grass fields. Well, there aren’t many players who have publicly said they prefer to play on artificial turf over grass fields. Some players have said they would play on any surface, but so far not a lot of players have said they prefer playing on turf.
In fact, the NFLPA has repeatedly advocated for the use of grass fields in all the NFL stadiums instead of turfs. Furthermore, as Patrick Mahomes said, some studies also suggest playing on grass is safer for players than playing on turf. However, despite the active calls for grass fields, the NFL doesn’t seem to take any steps to transform turfs into grass fields.
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs look to bounce back after week 1 loss
The defending Super Bowl champions Chiefs led by Patrick Mahomes shockingly lost to the Detroit Lions in their season opener a few days ago. Now, they are looking to bounce back with a victory in week 2.

The Chiefs are scheduled to face the Jacksonville Jaguars this weekend in their week 2 game. Mahomes will be happy entering week 2 since his favorite target, Travis Kelce, is set to return to the field after missing the season opener with a knee injury.
The 2-time league MVP Mahomes, Kelce, and the Kansas City-based football team will look to turn the momentum to their side with a dominant victory against the defending AFC South champions Jaguars.
