With just a few days left for the 2023 NFL season opener between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Detroit Lions, the star defensive tackle Chris Jones still hasn’t reported to the Chiefs training camp. He continues his holdout amidst the contract disputes. Amidst this situation, Patrick Mahomes, the starting quarterback of the Kansas City-based football team, recently threw shade at the Pro Bowl defensive lineman.

In a recent press conference during the Chiefs training camp, the Chiefs 2-time Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes was asked about the Chris Jones potential absence on Thursday’s game.

“At this point, you kind of just prepare to play the game with the guys that are in the building,” Mahomes answered, further adding, “Let the front office and staff handle that.”

Mahomes was also asked about his thought process behind accepting a team-friendly deal back in 2020. To which Mahomes answered that he simply likes the situation he is in and wants to continue to win championships in Kansas City.

“Um. I mean, I know how special it is here,” Mahomes said. “And I know how special the thing we got going [is]. I stay out of contract stuff, but I know I’m lucky to be in this place and I want to go out there and win as many championships as I can.”

Many implied Mahomes sent an indirect message to Jones with that opinion, but the 2-time league MVP might’ve simply shared why he accepted a team-friendly deal. Patrick Mahomes is currently the 7th highest-paid QB in the league, which is criminal since he is undeniably the best QB in the league right now. The gap between him and the second-best QB is pretty huge.

As for Jones, he plans to continue his holdout till week 8 of the 2023 regular season, which might be a huge loss for the Chiefs. But head coach Andy Reid is ready to defend the Chiefs’ crown with or without Jones on his squad.

The Chiefs’ 2-time Super Bowl-winning head coach Andy Reid isn’t focused on Chris Jones’ contract issues and is simply worried about getting his players prepared for the upcoming NFL season.

And now, Patrick Mahomes has also sent a similar message. So, it appears the 4-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jones is losing the support of his locker room due to his extreme holdout tactics.

But on the other hand, the Chiefs tight Travis Kelce still showed support to Jones by calling the greatest defensive player in the league and begging him to stop the holdout and return to the camp.

Apart from all this chaos, Jones has also fueled the trade rumors by liking a tweet on social media. Jones liked a tweet that linked him to the Dallas Cowboys and said that the Cowboys would be the best fit for the All-Pro defensive tackle.
