Everyone would agree that Patrick Mahomes is a world-class footballer. But when he’s not eyeing a pass or looking for a touchdown, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback can be found spending quality time with his family. His lovely wife, Brittany Matthews Mahomes, is the backbone of the house and the one who keeps track of Patrick’s every minuscule need.
To enjoy the remaining few days before the 2023 NFL season begins, the Mahomes family decided to get close to nature. They went to ‘snuggle’ with the dolphins. Patrick asked her little girl, Sterling Skye, “What’s in there?” while on a bridge over an enclosed area where the dolphins were. The Little Sterling replied, “I see the dolphins!”
Both mother and daughter were itching to take a closer look as they prepared themselves to hop into the water. They played with the dolphins and took some amazing pictures. She posted some clicks on her Instagram captioned, “ever snuggled a 400-pound dolphin?”
It’s not every day you get to witness one of the smartest species of fish up close and personal. The family cherished every single moment until the backlash. Since the post went viral, many have flocked to her account to show their displeasure.

Brittany, being the wife of a famous football player, will always be in the limelight for various reasons. While she is well-loved by her peers and followers alike, this time she is facing the unwanted wrath of the same people.
They were quick to point out that Brittany is encouraging “dolphin captivity’ with these pictures. User name: @emmashelby advised Brittany,” Please educate yourself on dolphins in captivity! It is hell for these beautiful creatures.”
Her comment section was filled with similar criticism. Username @nevalex said, “This is extremely disappointing, Brit. If they told you it’s a sanctuary, they lied. Sanctuaries don’t allow people to swim with dolphins.”
Moreover, most people recommended she watch the 2009 American documentary series ‘The Cove.’ Directed by photographer Louie Psihoyos, the documentary showcases dolphin hunting practices in Japan. It was made to create awareness about stopping the heinous practice. It won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2010.
They also mentioned the 2013 documentary ‘Blackfish’, which covers the story of Tilikum, an Orca held at Orlando’s SeaWorld marine zoological park. It was nominated for the Bafta Award for Best Documentary Film for showcasing the dark side of keeping an orca captive.
While there were mostly harsh comments on Brittany Mahomes’ post, some sided with her too. A user by the name of @eileens.925 said, “Jesus Christ, everyone, she’s on vacation! The dolphin is not in her backyard! Calm down!”
There haven’t been any more posts on her account, but her story suggests that they also went hiking.
