Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, who is part owner of the NWSL (National Women’s Soccer League) team, Kansas City Current, were in attendance for the opening of the new CPKC stadium. They were welcomed by Current’s chairman and CEO, Chris Long, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas, and NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman.
On the opening day of the new NWSL season, the Kansas City Current played their inaugural game at their new stadium. They were facing the Portland Thorns, who had won three of the last four meetings. However, the Current recorded a victory the last time the two teams went up against each other.
The game began at a brisque pace, quickly taking a 5-2 lead at halftime. However, the Thorns came close to a late upset after scoring two more goals to make the scoreline 5-4. However, the current managed to keep hold of their bearings, and the game finished in their favor.
During the game, the Mahomes cavalry was enjoying the match from the VIP suite inside CPKC. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, along with Brittany Mahomes and brother Jackson Mahomes, cheered when a Current player scored a goal.
Situated on the banks of the Missouri River, the CPKC Stadium would act as a symbol of the new age of women’s soccer in the country. The cost of building the 11,000-seat establishment was around $120 million, which has the downtown skyline as its picturesque backdrop.

Following the win, she spoke with ESPN and expressed how great the vibe was at the stadium.

Brittany bought a stake in Kansas City Current along with Angie and Chris Long back in 2020. Three years later, in 2023, Patrick Mahomes decided to add his name to the mix.

The Current’s season has only just begun. Next, they will travel to California to face the San Diego Wave before welcoming Angel City FC at home.
