In the NFL’s 50th international game, the New England Patriots failed to stop their slump as they benched quarterback Mac Jones in another low-scoring match. It marked their eighth defeat of the season, and the league has barely entered its halfway point. It’s no wonder the fans aren’t happy and are beginning to show signs of frustration.
From start to finish, the game was dull. The only two moments to savor were the Colts running back Jonathan Taylor making a 1-yard touchdown in the first quarter and a bad pick from Jones in the fourth.
That basically forced Bill Belichick‘s hand to bench the 25-year-old. He was being chewed off by Patriots offensive play caller Bill O’Brien on the bench as second-year backup Bailey Zappe came on for the last few snaps.
Unfortunately, when it rains, it pours for Belichick’s men these days. Just on his second snap, Zappe threw a horrible pick to double coverage and turned over the play to the Colts with just a few seconds left on the clock.
Not that it matters to any Patriots fan who firmly believed that Jones was the answer when Tom Brady left. Their enthusiasm peaked when the Alabama alumnus made the Pro Bowl in his rookie season.
He hasn’t been the same since, and by the looks of it, their patience is running thin. After yesterday’s defeat, a video surfaced in which presumably a Patriots fan can be seen burning a Mac Jones jersey.
Did Mac Jones get injured during the Colts game?
Jones’ day ended with only 15 completions and 170 yards. After coming, the cameras caught him heading to the X-ray room. There was no official confirmation as to what the root cause was. It concerned the onlookers, and few even speculated that he got benched for picking up a knock.
Well, he did get sacked five times and ate a few devastating hits on a couple of occasions. Although it did not appear to be anything out of the ordinary, there was still concern regarding his health.
Jone later broke the suspense during the post-match interview. He revealed that it was a minor bruise and nothing too serious as per Pro Football Network.
If he did pick up a slight jab at some point in the game, he will have time to recover. The Patriots are entering their bye week, and this is the chance to evaluate and develop a plan to salvage some pride in the remaining games.
