Four months ago, the Patriots linebacker Willie McGinest found himself on rough waters after he assaulted a man with a deadly weapon in a nightclub in Los Angeles. On December 19, McGinest voluntarily surrendered himself to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department after the video of the assault went viral on social media.
The linebacker who was inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame in 2015 was seen in the video assaulting a guy with a few of his friends in a nightclub in West Hollywood. 10 days after the beatdown, the 55-year-old analyst issued a statement apologizing for his behavior on his social media account.
“First and foremost, I want to offer my deepest apology for my lapse in judgment and behavior on December 9 at a restaurant in West Hollywood,” McGinest wrote on Instagram later that month. “To my family, community, friends, and youth I mentor, please know I feel horrible for my actions and take full responsibility. To my colleagues at the NFL Network and those that I work closely with as an advisor to professional and community-based organizations, please know I am embarrassed and regret what occurred.”
Furthermore, he also claimed that his lapse in judgment is a one-time incident and does not reflect his faith or his role as a father. He also vowed to take whatever steps necessary to restore the public trust, mend damaged relationships, and ensure an incident like that never happens again.
Former Patriots LB Willie McGinest out at NFL Network
And now, nearly 4 months after the beatdown incident, the three-time Super Bowl Champion Willie McGinest is reportedly fired by the NFL Network. He was working as an NFL analyst for several years.
The linebacker played 15 seasons in the NFL for two different teams. He spent 12 years with the New England Patriots where he received 2 Pro Bowl nods and three Super Bowl rings. He registered 78 sacks, 4 interceptions, and 16 forced fumbles.
After his successful stint with the Patriots, the 2-time Pro Bowl LB signed with the Cleveland Browns where he registered 8 sacks, 1 interception, and 2 fumble returns in three years.
Nevertheless, apart from losing his job, the linebacker is also allegedly facing a lawsuit from the victim. He is facing charges on one count of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of assault using force likely to cause great severe bodily injuries. He is facing possibly 8 years of jail time.
