“Is this a prank?” Patriots’ pick Cole Strange surprised after getting call from Bill Belichick before the NFL 2022 draft

The NFL 2022 draft sprung up plenty of surprise picks from the various franchises, however, if we are to pick the most surprising pick, Cole Strange might just top the list. The UT-Chattanooga guard was drafted in by the Patriots as their 29th overall pick, a move which shocked many to the core.
It seemed to shock Cole Strange more than anyone else, as the youngster could not believe him getting picked by Bill Belichick’s Patriots that early in the draft. The 23-year old thought that someone is pranking him when Patriots head coach, Belichick called him to give him the news on the eve of the NFL draft.

During his call with the head coach, his first reaction was to check whether that call made to him at about 11 P.M ET was a prank call from one of his “crazy friends”. Cole Strange’s dad Greg Strange revealed the hilarious events of the things which panned out before the draft.
“[Cole] said, ‘Sir, I don’t mean to be disrespectful at all, but I’ve gotta know because I’ve got some crazy friends. Is this a prank?’ The guy said, ‘Hold on just a second.’ And then Bill Belichick got on the phone and of course, unless you’ve been under a rock for the last 20 years, you know Bill Belichick’s voice,” Greg Strange said.
Cole was predicted to go in the third or fourth round by every mock draft, the Patriots could have chosen players such as Nakobe Dean, Andrew Booth Jr, and many more.
