It has been only a few days since the NFL wrapped up their 2023 regular season. As the eliminated teams are starting to prepare for the next season, heads are rolling in the league. In that trend, the Seattle Seahawks recently announced that they are demoting their veteran leader Pete Carroll from head coach to an advisor following an underwhelming campaign.

During his final press conference as the Seahawks head coach on Wednesday, an emotional Pete Carroll choked up while emphasizing the importance of players in the league.

The NFL is about the players and we've not recognized that to my satisfaction. I brought it up in league meetings a few years ago and probably surprised some people about it. But, this league is about players and without those guys doing what they do, there's nothing.

Furthermore, Carroll stressed that the league is not about ownership, coaching decisions, or teams, but simply about players putting their bodies on the line every time they take the field. Carroll said that the league should always celebrate the players.

We should always -- in my opinion -- understand that we should celebrate those guys because they are the NFL. They are this game that we love and the game we get to coach.

Pete Carroll spent 14 years as the head coach of the Seattle-based football team. Under his leadership, the Seahawks won 137 regular season games. Furthermore, he always kept Seattle in postseason contention, winning 5 NFC West division titles and 10 playoff victories. He also brought the Seahawks the only Super Bowl championship in the franchise’s history.

Pete Carroll will continue as an advisor for the Seahawks

On Wednesday, the Seahawks owner Jody Allen announced in a statement that his team is mutually parting ways with their head coach Pete Carroll. However, the team said, Carroll will remain with the Seahawks as an advisor.

Carroll’s role as an advisor is unclear as of now, but he revealed that his new role doesn’t need him to help general manager John Schneider in finding a suitable replacement for him.

Furthermore, Carroll also cleverly deflected questions about whether he would accept a head coaching job from a different team in the future. He implied he’s only worried about today and not the future.

And now, the Seahawks will start to look for their next leader in the upcoming head coach hiring circle. Currently, the former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel and the Michigan Wolverines’ Jim Harbaugh are currently two of the favorites to become the next Seahawks coach.
