The uncertainty surrounding the future of star wide receiver, Odell Beckham Jr. is finally over after the 30-year-old signed a bumper one-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens. OBJ’s future has been a source of constant interest in the NFL since last season, when he seemed all set to return from the anterior cruciate ligament injury.

A Super Bowl winner with the Los Angeles Rams, Odell Beckham Jr. suffered the heartbreaking injury during the Super Bowl LVI game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Despite his injury, he left a stellar mark on the iconic game by scoring the opening touchdown in the first quarter.

However, that was one of the very few positives OBJ could take home from a night that left him out of the game for over a year. He continued his rehabilitation and looked all set to make a return last season, with a number of franchises interested in his services only to reveal that he wasn’t going to be completely fit in time.

Odell Beckham Jr. will return to the NFL as a Raven

That won’t be the case this time after the wide receiver had already proven his fitness by hosting a workout session that was attended by 12 NFL teams, including the Baltimore Ravens. While the signing will improve the Ravens’ offensive line undoubtedly, there have been some concerns raised by the critics as to how OBJ would fare in the league, coming back from his second career ACL injury.

Given these constraints, the $15 million guaranteed pay contract for the wideout can seem a bit outlandish. The same theory was put forward by popular NFL analyst Peter King, who termed the deal a “little too rich for his blood.” He also felt that his signing wouldn’t change the Ravens’ strategy going into the NFL draft, in the sense that they’ll still want to draft a top receiver.

“Odell Beckham’s a good signing for the Ravens, but I doubt it changes their draft plans one iota. Baltimore still will strongly consider a first-round receiver, in part because the three or four top receivers should land in a bunch right around where the Ravens pick in the first round, at 21,” King wrote in his report for NBC Sports.

“Adam Schefter reported the one-year deal includes $15 million guaranteed, which is a little rich for my blood for a guy with two ACL surgeries in the last three years entering his age-31 season.”

If the Ravens are able to make Lamar Jackson stay this season, they would definitely make one of the most potent quarterback-wideout pairings throughout the league.
