The Philadelphia Eagles failed to defeat the Patrick Mahomes-led Kansas City Chiefs in an all-time classic game at the Super Bowl. However, they have had a great season in 2022, as they managed to terrorize the NFC throughout the season. With their QB Jalen Hurts still on a rookie deal, the Eagles are set to dominate the league once again in 2023. But the NFL reporter Peter Schrager believes they will get dethroned by the San Francisco 49ers in the upcoming season.

The 49ers and the Eagles are two of the best team in the NFC currently. They finished as the top two seeds last season and got a chance in the NFC Championship game to prove which team was better. However, the Niners rookie sensation Brock Purdy got hurt in the first quarter of the game, which led to the 49ers playing the game with their fourth-string quarterback.

The much-expected battle between the two juggernauts quickly turned into a one-sided beatdown, and the Eagles blew out the Niners on their way to the Super Bowl. The Niners players repeatedly blamed their loss on Brock Purdy’s injury and some even openly said that they would’ve exposed the Eagles’ defense if they had a decent quarterback.

Fans will never know how that game would’ve turned out if it wasn’t for the injury, but the history records know the Eagles’ offense scored 30-plus points on the Niners’ tough defense. So the Eagles are good and they’ll continue to improve with Jalen Hurts under center.

The 49ers have unfinished business with the Eagles

While many experts believe that Jalen Hurts and the Eagles would dominate the NFC for years to come, NFL reporter Peter Schrager believes the 49ers, who have unfinished business with Nick Sirianni‘s team will prevail over the Eagles next season.

During a recent episode of the show Good Morning Football, where the panel debated about which team is capable of knocking the Eagles off the NFC throne, Peter Schrager picked the 49ers. “I feel like we were robbed of what could’ve been an all-time showdown between a great defense and an amazing offensive line, and I feel like the Niners actually bring back a lot of their star players [next season],” said Schrager in a recent episode of GMF.

Furthermore, he also claims that Kyle Shanahan‘s Niners still feel like they belong in the Super Bowl and are out for blood. “The 49ers have this feeling of unfinished business,” Schrager said. “I feel like the 49ers feel like they still belong in the Super Bowl. And you heard that all Super Bowl week, from everyone. … Niners are out for blood.”

The Niners may bring plenty of their players back, but Schrager is forgetting the fact that the Philadelphia-based football team is powered by the rookies. Furthermore, they also have plenty of draft capital this season. In fact, they even have a Top 10 pick. So, it’s really tough to see the Eagles getting dethroned by any team in the upcoming season.
