The New York Jets caused an upset on Monday as they successfully secured a victory against the Buffalo Bills in their season opener on Monday. However, in the bigger picture, the Jets possibly lost their starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the remainder of the 2023 NFL season as he suffered a leg injury in the game. Zach Wilson is expected to fill in the big shoes of the veteran quarterback, which does not sit well with many Jets fans and the former NFL QB Peyton Manning.

The 14-time Pro Bowl QB Peyton Manning and his brother Eli Manning were doing the Manning Cast show for ESPN’s Monday Night Football game. During the game, Rodgers went down with a serious in the first quarter and was ruled out for the remainder of the game. As a result, the Jets’ second-string QB Zach Wilson replaced Rodgers under center.

Wilson did not have a good start in the game. At one point, Eli Manning asked Peyton, how many times Wilson should throw in the remainder of the game. “You can get on the perfect prediction panel,” Eli told his brother, Peyton. “How many times will Zach Wilson throw the ball the rest of the game? So far, it looks like he’s thrown it 12 times. Will he reach 25 times?”

“Three more at the most,” predicted Peyton. “Three more passes here.”

Just when Peyton was saying that Wilson received a snap from the center and made a questionable decision to run backward when the pocket broke. Fortunately, Wilson was able to avoid a sack and threw the ball away without turning over the ball. Manning looked visibly disappointed when Wilson was running backward to escape the pressure.

Nonetheless, Wilson managed to lead the NY Jets to a victory against their AFC East division rivals Bills in their week 1 game despite losing their star quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

The 39-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers is suspected to have ruptured his Achilles during the Jets’ week 1 game against the Bills. He is now expected to miss the remainder of the 2023 season.

During the post-game press conference, the Jets head coach Robert Saleh confirmed that Rodgers’ X-ray came back negative but the fear is he might have suffered an Achilles injury. Rodgers will take an MRI on Monday and only then the official status of his injury will be revealed.

As of now, the Jets are expected to roll with the former second-overall pick Zach Wilson as their starting QB for the rest of the season. Wilson and the Jets will face the Dallas Cowboys in their week 2 game.
