Peyton Manning takes a ‘huge’ dig at the Jets with a special Taylor Swift reference

Peyton Manning returned to host the CMA Awards with co-host Luke Bryan on Wednesday night. While the two were engrossed in their opening monologue, they brought up Taylor Swift and her newfound romance with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Not only that, the retired NFL quarterback also managed to troll the New York Jets while at it.

Swift and Kelce have been the talk of the town since the pop icon started attending the Chiefs games to cheer for her beau. But neither of them was present at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, which is why Manning brought the star pair into their conversation.

Their skit began with a slight joke, claiming they were the rebound option for the vacant host job. The event planners’ first preference was Taylor and Travis. “We are back, and you know what that means,” Manning began, and Bryan added, “Yup, Travis and Taylor weren’t available.”

The two-time Super Bowl winner and ex-Broncos QB did not stop there. He brought up Swift’s Eras Tour success, more importantly, at MetLife Stadium. Then took a slight dig at one of the teams that plays football inside the structure. Manning called out the New York Jets for their subpar start to the 2023 season. He implied Swift could fill the MetLife Stadium better than the Jets.

“Luke, do you know the difference between Taylor Swift and the NY Jets?” The 47-year-old asked, to which Bryan responded, “Taylor can sell out a stadium?” Manning added, “You nailed it! I had you do that punchline, Luke, so I wouldn’t get in trouble.”

The New York Jets fired back at Payton Manning

In Manning’s illustrious 18-year career, he faced the New York Jets 12 times in the regular season, winning on eight occasions. He also played against the Gang Green in the post-season 3 times. According to the Jets’ official website, Manning completed 327 of 523 passes with 62.5% accuracy for 3,671 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions while keeping an 85.8 rating.

There’s nothing more than respect between the two parties, but the situation was different. Despite what may be considered a harmless jibe, Manning attacked an institution that’s the heart and soul of New York culture. It may have been a harmful tease, but the Jets’ social media did not seem to appreciate the dig very much. They responded with a game day picture of a packed MetLife. “What are we talking about, Peyton?” they tweeted.

His former side, the Broncos, lost to the Jets early this season. They welcomed their AFC rivals at Mile High and ended up conceding their fourth defeat. The Jets will lock horns against the Raiders this week.
