The Philadelphia Eagles came close to winning it all this season, the team made it to the Super Bowl after they breezed through the regular season with relative ease. While Philly failed to successfully cap off this season by winning a chip, the team did show fans that it has a lot of potential, and with their existing roster, this squad is capable of going to and winning multiple Super Bowls over the coming years.
While the Philadelphia Eagles are a relatively complete team with good players across the board on offense and defense, there is one position wherein the team significantly lacks depth. It is the running back position. Philly has a quarterback who can run but the team’s running backs are not the best or most consistent players that any Super Bowl contender would ideally wish to have.
In 2022, Miles Sanders was the RB1 for the Philadelphia Eagles, he ended the season with 1269 yards on 259 carries and had 11 touchdowns. This offseason, the team lost him to the Carolina Panthers who went all-in on him by offering him a 4-year contract worth $25 million with $13 million guaranteed. The Eagles on the other hand signed D’Andre Swift to replace him and the team already has Rashaad Penny.

The Philadelphia Eagles could use a consistent player at the running back position
This leaves the Eagles with Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott as the team’s 3rd and 4th options at RB. Swift was ranked 25th amongst running backs in the NFL in 2022, Penny came in at 62 on the rankings while Gainwell and Scott come in at 54 and 75 respectively.
Sanders’ loss to the Panthers was a big hit for the Eagles, while the team would have had to be liable to pay $13 million to their former RB if they had signed him again, with their existing RB room the team will shell out less than $3 million this season. The Eagles appear to be reluctant to shell out big money to secure a reliable and consistent running back which is a must for the team if they intend to make the most out of their existing roster and the talent available at their disposal.
Fans on Twitter had this to say about this stat:
Numbers do not lie.
Currently, it seems like, consistency is the biggest issue with the Eagles’ running back core.
