The birth of a child is always a special occasion for any parent. But for the former Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers and his wife, Tiffany, happiness is about to hit a milestone as they are expecting their 10th child.
Rivers, who hung up his boots after 17 years of being in the NFL, is now the football coach at St. Michael Catholic in Fairhope, Alabama. The 41-year-old is undoubtedly a happy man, as he will be welcoming a baby boy into their house.
“We are all fired up,” Rivers revealed to AL.com while attending an event in Daphne. “Everyone was pulling for a boy. Even our girls.” The former Chargers man has seven daughters and two boys, ranging in age from 4 to 21. Halle (21), Caroline (18), Grace (17), Gunner (15), Sarah (13), Peter (12), Rebecca (9), Clare (7), and Anna (4).
Tiffany and Philip are ecstatic with the newest arrival to their ever-growing and cheerful house. This is the longest period they have gone without welcoming a new baby. “This is the longest gap,” Rivers continued. “We’ve had one pretty much every two years.”
Rivers was asked if they had thought of a name for the baby. The ex-Indianapolis man replied,” We have plenty of opinions.” Incidentally, both his mother and father come from a family of nine siblings. Rivers thought he would continue the tradition, but “we decided to go double-digits.” Then he corrected himself, saying he and his wife did not decide, but rather, “God decided.”
Philip Rivers and his family are devout Catholics
The eight-time NFL Pro Bowler, Philip Rivers, is a very religious man, as evident from his conversations. When he finally called time on his play in January 2021, he released a very heartfelt statement. “January 20th is a special and emotional day,” Rivers told the San Diego Union-Tribune. “It is St. Sebastian’s Feast Day.” In the Catholic world, Sebastian is often viewed as the Patron Saint of athletes.
Rivers always dreamed of playing in the NFL, and he thanked the Almighty. “Thank you, God, for allowing me to live out my childhood dream.” He showed his gratitude to the teams he played for and the coaches and players.
In his career, Philip Rivers was one of the most prolific quarterbacks ever. Despite being underappreciated most of the time, everyone was aware of his talent. Rivers, in 244 games, has 63,440 passing yards with 421 touchdowns and 209 interceptions.
