The much-awaited NFL 2023-24 season kick-started with the Detroit Lions stunning the defending champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. It was a huge upset for the NFL fans, who expected a different result. Fan favorite Patrick Mahomes played well; however, his efforts remained insufficient to pull the trigger for the team. However, Skip Bayless blamed it all on Mahomes on social media.

Right after the game, analyst Skip Bayless raised questions about the star QB Patrick Mahomes. His writing added a pinch of sarcasm that inevitably caused trouble for the analyst. Fans did not take well to Bayless’ remarks on Mahomes and questioned his intentions. They accused Bayless of always looking for opportunities to criticize Mahomes.

The season-opener had intense drama and many nail-biting moments. Fans have waited for the new season for a long time, and the game did not disappoint. The Chiefs, despite scoring 20 faced a setback as the Lions quickly pulled the trigger and gave a befitting reply by scoring 21. In the end, the Lions, who had not won any divisional title since 1994, won the encounter against the mighty Chiefs.

The Chiefs suffered from both offensive and defensive ends. They were not very good with their offensive efforts. The tight-end Travis Kelce missed the game due to an injury that caused trouble for the Chiefs. Many of their attacks were half-baked, and Mahomes could not carry the team in the offensive areas. On the other hand, the absence of defensive tackle Chris Jones had a vital impact on the field. Overall, the Lions were in better shape in the game.

Skip Bayless was subjected to trolls and banters after criticizing Patrick Mahomes

After the season opener, fans took to Twitter to vent their surprise. Analysts were also no exception. In his tweet, Skip Bayless wrote, “Wait, Michael Jordan Mahomes lost his home opener to … the Lions??? Did Mahomes ever miss Kelce. Did he ever throw a bunch of wild off-target passes as the game wore on and he got more and more frustrated? Even the last Toney drop was behind him.” The statement from Bayless did not sit well with the fans. They went on X (formerly known as Twitter to bash Bayless.

This tweet grabbed the attention of the fans, and they started lashing out at the veteran analyst as he allegedly criticized Mahomes without any reason. Some fans even said he fulfilled his agenda of reducing Mahomes’ quality as a QB. The result may be a shock to a lot of fans. However, some analysts predicted that the Lions could beat the Chiefs. In one of the episodes of the famous talk show ‘First Take,’ Shannon Sharpe said that it would be difficult for the Chiefs to beat the Lions without Chris Jones.
