C.J. Stroud, the QB of the Houston Texans, is having the best time of his life. In his rookie season in the NFL, Stroud has stunned everyone with his performance. The rookie’s heroics in the games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Cincinnati Bengals have been well-discussed by analysts and a lot of them are considering him one of the favorites for the MVP already.
The QB, however, remains humble despite his brilliance on the gridiron and is giving all the credit to the lord almighty. In the post Bengals game press conference, Stroud said that it is all God’s mercy that is helping him to shine in his first season.
It is a lot of prayers. God wouldn’t put anything on me that I can’t handle. I don’t deserve his grace and his mercy, but he still gives it to me and I love him for that. It’s not about me, it’s about him and his glory. So that’s where it comes from, God made me like that. It is not only about football but things that I can't chill when everything has gone crazy.
Stroud’s comments also come after Soccer superstar Megan Rapinoe broke the internet with her controversial statement on lack of God following the shortened final game of her career. Well, Stroud might be giving all his flowers to the lord off the field, but on the field, he is the person who is providing it. The QB has played nine games this season and has helped his team to win five out of those nine fixtures.
His individual stats are sky-high as he has registered 15 touchdowns for 2,626 yards against just two interceptions. He had a five-touchdown game against the Bucs and against the Bengals, the QB led his team to a well fought lead. After the Bengals tied the game, Stroud took 88 seconds to arrange a decisive field goal for his team.
Can C.J. Stroud bag the MVP award in his rookie season?
After his heroics in week nine and 10, Stroud’s name is popping up in the MVP Award discussions. Analysts are considering him as one of the finest signal callers this season. Analyst Shannon Sharpe called it a ‘no brainer’ that Stroud is the best quarterback in the league.
Stroud is currently the top contender for the ‘Offensive Rookie Player of the Year’ award by miles. But his name is getting inclined with the MVP too. Caesars Sportsbook data reveals that the QB currently holds the eighth-highest odds to win the MVP at +2500. If he can continue with his form, then there are high chances that he can finish on the top of the list.
The last time, a rookie won the MVP award was in 1957. It was legendary running back Jim Brown. It is to be seen whether the player touches his record.
