The Cincinnati Bengals starting QB, Joe Burrow, is recovering from a calf strain he suffered at the beginning of training camp. It was a noncontact injury, and the Bengals will hope it’s nothing serious. He is expected to start the season for the Bengals. Amidst injury concerns for Burrow, the Bengals signed former Dallas Cowboys’ QB Will Grier.

The Carolina Panthers selected Grier in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. After two seasons with the Panthers, the Cowboys picked him up off waivers, and he played in Dallas for two seasons. He was released by the Cowboys this season and has signed with the Bengals as their backup since then. The Bengals recently released backup quarterback Trevor Siemien.

Burrow has yet to have an entire training camp under his belt since being drafted by the Bengals in the 2020 NFL draft. He has been bothered by injuries throughout his NFL career, and signing a backup of Grier’s quality is a good pick-up by the Bengals. Jake Browning and Grier will back up burrow for the 2023 season.

In his final game for the Dallas Cowboys, Grier threw for 305 yards and two touchdowns. He had a good preseason, and the Bengals hope he will be ready to go whenever his number is called upon. They open their season against their division rivals, the Cleveland Browns, on September 10.

Joe Burrow, the Cincinnati Bengals’ starting QB, suffered a calf injury early in training camp. He hasn’t practiced since then, and his status for the opening game is still up in the air. Head coach Zac Taylor did not reveal much about the QB’s return to practice and is unsure if he’ll do so.

We’ll see,” Taylor said on Tuesday. He further told reporters that he has faith in backup QB Jake Browning. “I feel really good about Jake being the No. 2.” He concluded by saying, “I think [Burrow] has a very healthy body, and I’m encouraged by that.

Joe Burrow is due for an extension this season and will potentially become one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league. Burrow is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and will be paid accordingly. The Bengals are contenders to reach the Super Bowl this season and will hope to begin their campaign with a win in Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns.
