Quay Walker was part of the Packers team that couldn’t get the better of the Lions on week 18 of the NFL matchup. A win against them would have guaranteed them a place in the playoffs. However, the Packers trailed throughout the game and Walker let frustration get the best of him when he committed a horrid mistake during the game.
Late in the game, a Lions player was down injured as medical personnel and trainers ran to the field to treat the player. However, Walker was getting increasingly agitated as the Packers were trailing and decided to shove the Lions’ trainer.
The rookie LB got himself ejected for such disturbing behavior. Walker was massively criticized by the media and fans for shoving the Lions’ trainer.
The Packers LB later recognized his mistake and put out an apology for his behavior that was clearly looked down upon. “I want to apologize publicly about what happened Sunday night,” said Walker, in his apology “I reacted off of my emotions again and take full responsibility of making another stupid decision.”
“Since then I’ve questioned myself on why did I do what I did when the trainer was doing his job!! I was wrong!!,” Walker admitted his mistake and apologized for it. However, it came too late as the LB was already ejected from the game.
HC Matt LaFleur reprimanded Quay Walker for his outburst
Walker is a talented LB who has led the team in tackles made this season. However, he is young and impulsive. Maybe that’s the reason he shoved the Lions’ trainer.
Whatever the reason may have been, HC Matt LaFleur wasn’t content with his outburst and immediately called out Walker for his behavior. The Packers HC holds his players to much higher standards and won’t accept this behavior in the future.
“That is unacceptable,” LaFleur stated in the post-match press conference. “I’ve got a much higher standard for our players than to do silly things like that. We’ve got a guy ejected twice. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that in my career. We’ve got to be much more mentally tough.”
Walker and LaFleur will have loads of time to think about their actions as the Packers‘ season was cut short after the loss to the Lions. With Aaron Rodgers’ future uncertain, the Packers will have a busy offseason this year.
