Following a remarkable 2022 season, defensive lineman Quinnen Williams secured a huge 4-year contract extension worth up to $96 million with the New York Jets in the 2023 off-season. Now, he’s preparing for the upcoming season with the Jets camp. Amidst his hectic training schedule, Williams sat down with Ryan Clark and The Pivot crew for an interview.
During the interview, Williams opened up about his mother Marquischa Henderson Williams, who died at the very young age of 37 when Williams was still in middle school. Marquischa died because of breast cancer, but Williams is still carrying her teachings with him.
“It was a hard moment man,” said Quinnen while talking about losing his mom at a young age. “It was definitely painful during that time to lose a best friend, to lose somebody who you know that had your back and somebody who you know that was going to raise you up to be a phenomenal person.”
Still, the Jets defensive tackle went on to say how it helped him to become the person he is today. Furthermore, he also said that whatever he is doing on the field and off the field is to make her proud.
“It helped me be the person I am today. Because, I know the way I live my life, the way I go out there, the way I do different things on the field and off the field is all to make my mom proud and all to make sure her and my father know that what you guys taught us never left us.”
“No matter how much money or fame or no matter what setting or circumstance we in, we all gonna live by the foundation and the base that they taught us,” said Williams.
The Jets’ All-Pro defensive tackle further claimed that his mom taught him to always finish the things he started. That’s the motto he, his brother and his teammate Quincy Williams live by.
Quinnen Williams is looking to leave a legacy with the Jets
The Jets’ Pro Bowl defensive lineman Quinnen Williams is currently one of the best D-linemen in the league. Last season, Williams had the best campaign of his career so far as he registered 12 sacks and received his first Pro Bowl and All-Pro nod.
As a result, Williams bagged a huge contract extension with the New York-based football team. He signed a 4-year deal worth up to $96 million, which makes him one of the highest-paid defensive players in the NFL.
Now, after securing his contract, Williams claimed that he is aware of the narrative that athletes lose motivation after signing a big deal, but Williams looks to be an exception to that notion.
The 2022 Pro Bowler said that he values legacy over money and is now looking to leave a great legacy with the Jets. He certainly has an opportunity to start his legacy by helping Aaron Rodgers and the Jets to win the Super Bowl ring in the upcoming season.
