On Monday Night Football, the New York Jets, led by their star quarterback Zach Wilson, suffered a loss against the Los Angeles Chargers in their week 9 matchup. In the game, announcer Troy Aikman had a weird remark about how the Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams called himself the “highest-paid decoy” in the league.

And now, the Jets star defensive tackle Williams — who signed a 4-year $96 million extension in the off-season — has called out Aikman over his weird remark on the broadcast.

I never said that. I never talked to Troy Aikman. I never said that to Troy Aikman. I don’t know where he got that from. It never came out of my mouth that I was the ‘highest-paid decoy.’
Williams told reporters on Wednesday’s press conference.

Furthermore, the 25-year-old emphasizes that he never said anywhere that he is the highest-paid decoy in football. That means Williams is saying that the Pro Football Hall of Famer straight lied on National television during the MNF game between the Jets and the Chargers.

I never said that. I never talked to him before the game. I never alluded to that. It’s never been out of my mouth. So to hear him say that I said that is kind of upsetting that he would lie on me like that or say that I said that.

After that, a reporter asked whether Quinnen Williams had any kind of conversation with Troy Aikman after he lied about him on the MNF game. Williams said he hasn’t had any conversation with Aikman again.

Quinnen Williams has slowed down a bit in 2023

Following his first Pro Bowl and All-Pro season, the Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams signed a huge 4-year deal with the New York-based football team worth approximately $96 million.

He was expected to be a big part of the Jets’ defense in the 2023 season, but he has slowed down a bit. Last season, Williams registered 12 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.

But this season, Williams has registered only 0.5 sacks through the first 9 weeks of the regular season. However, his impact on the Jets’ defensive line cannot be overlooked.

He is currently one of the best-run defenders in the league and is constantly applying pressure in the opposing backfield. But, he has to finish up his sacks to make a bigger impact on his team.

Nonetheless, the All-Pro defensive lineman would look to lead his team to a victory in their week 10 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday Night Football.
