“Fire McDumba**” – Raiders HC Josh McDaniels gets TORCHED on social media over his reasoning to kick a field goal while trailing by 8 in the final minutes of the game against Steelers

The Las Vegas Raiders haven’t had the best of starts to their NFL season. After a winning start against division rivals the Denver Broncos, they have now lost two games in a row. Their latest defeat came at the hands of the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels has been under pressure since last season, and a wobbly start to the 2023 NFL campaign won’t help his case.
The Raiders were down by eight points late in their game against the Steelers. Instead of going for the fourth-down conversion, McDaniels settled for a field goal. The Las Vegas-based team eventually lost the game 18–23. It was a rather bizarre decision to go for the field goal in that situation. However, McDaniels stood by his call and explained it after the game.
“You have two choices there. You try to make it a five-point game where you have an opportunity to win it with a touchdown if you get the ball back. Or you try to go for it there, and if you happen to convert you have to make the two-point conversion, all the rest of it.“
Continuing his train of thought, he further added, “So, those are the decisions you’ve got to make. I thought we did a decent job putting ourselves in third down there the next series with the defense to try to have a play to get off the field, and we just didn’t handle that play very well.”
The Raiders are now 1-2, and McDaniels is under serious pressure to deliver positive results. He was hired by the Raiders last year after enjoying a lot of success with the New England Patriots as their OC in the 2010s. He was part of the Patriots’ six Super Bowl-winning teams under Bill Belichick. The Raiders will take on the Los Angeles Chargers in their next game on October 1.
Fans slam Josh McDaniels for his bizarre late-game decision to kick a FG
Josh McDaniels and the Las Vegas Raiders played the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. The Raiders were down by eight points late in the fourth quarter when McDaniels decided to kick a field goal instead of going for the fourth-down conversion and trying to tie the game. The Steelers won the game 18-23.
Fans on social media blasted McDaniels for his confounding decision, asking the Raiders to ‘fire McDumba**.’ The Raiders were 1-1 before entering the game against the Steelers and had the chance of taking the game to overtime and giving themselves a chance. McDaniels, however, had other ideas, and he later defended his decision to go for three points instead of eight.
Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions online, here’s what fans have to say:
McDaniels served as OC for the Bill Belichick-led New England Patriots in the 2010s. However, since becoming the head coach of the Raiders, he hasn’t replicated the same success he had with Tom Brady and the Patriots. The Raiders will hope to get back on winning ways against the Los Angeles Chargers next Sunday.
