Jack Jones went all in with Raider’s ‘villain’ persona and wasn’t in the giving mood on Monday night. The Las Vegas Raiders cornerback snatched a pass from Patrick Mahomes and ran the field for a touchdown, but instead of being Santa Claus, he decided to go with Grinch.

Arrowhead saw its first “Nickmas” game as the Kansas City Chiefs aimed to be serious contenders for the AFC #1 seed. LA, on the other hand, was fighting to stay in the playoff hunt. The game promised to deliver some fireworks, and it did.

With just under 5 minutes to go until halftime, the Chiefs had the ball in their possession on 1 and 10. Mahomes took the snap and threw the ball on the right side of the field, looking for wide receiver Justin Watson. But Jones saw the opportunity, intercepted the pass, and took off with it, completing a pick-6.

Before the game, Jones had said,

We’re not worried about them. It’s Patrick Mahomes; we’ve got to stop. You know, the magician. You stop the magician, then the act is over.

And he did exactly what was asked of him. As he was running toward the end zone, he was staring down at Mahomes to prove that they were going to win the game.

Jack Jones, the Grinch to the Chiefs Christmas

The Raiders and Chiefs are well-known rivals in football. Neither fanbase has a particular liking for each other. That’s primarily because both are AFC West sides and face each other twice in a season. So it’s expected to witness instances similar to what Jack Jones pulled off.

It didn’t end there. Jones continued to pile on the banter even after the game wrapped up. He completely embraced the villain role with a nod to the biggest Christmas villain of them all. The 26-year-old shared a meme picture of himself with Grinch’s head with the words,

Merry Christmas Raider Nation.

This wasn’t the former Arizona State player’s first rodeo when it comes to making big plays like that. In the Los Angeles Chargers game, he caught a brilliant one-handed interception from quarterback Easton Stick for a return. The Raiders put 60 points past the LA franchise, which led to the firing of their head coach. And yesterday, they ruined Christmas for Kansas City.

It’s astounding to imagine that the Raiders quarterbacks only completed nine passes for 62 yards, yet they still ran out as 20-14 winners. Besides Jones, 313-pound defensive tackle Bilal Nichols had buried a fumble return.

With that win, the Las Vegas Raiders keep their playoff hopes alive with a 7-8 record. They could still finish with a winning season by recording a couple of victories against the Indianapolis Colts (8-7) and Denver Broncos (7-8).
