SoFI Stadium on Thursday night witnessed a touching moment between Kyren Williams and his mother. The Los Angeles Rams running back, who is having a second season to remember, scored a touchdown and gifted her the ball.

Williams was a menace throughout the game, bamboozling the New Orleans Saints defenders, but he had yet to reach the end zone. That all changed in the second half. On 2nd and 3, with 5 minutes remaining in the third quarter, the 23-year-old received the ball from Matthew Stafford and completed a 10-yard dash.

Noticing his mother, Taryn Williams, sitting in the stands near the Saints goal area, he ran towards her and handed over the TD ball. She was overjoyed to see her son help the Rams increase their lead by 20 points.

In the end, Williams’ run turned out to be critical for the Rams. The Saints scored 15 points in the fourth quarter alone after only scoring seven in the first three. Fortunately, they weren’t able to add more, and the game finished 30-22 in favor of LA.

Kyren Williams has been one of the players of the season for the Los Angeles Rams

Sean McVay‘s side has been the ‘nearly’ team all season in 2023. They have done well in patches, but lately, they seem to have found their groove and stand at 8-7 after yesterday’s win. The confidence in this team was low to begin with, considering the abysmal Super Bowl defense of last season. But they have shown character.

Stafford seems to be rolling back the years and is starting to look like the quarterback that he was 2-3 seasons ago. In the last 5 games, the 35-year-old’s lowest passer rating is 100 in one game, while throwing 14 touchdowns and just a single pick in that span.

The most encouraging part is the return to form of All-Pro receiver Cooper Kupp. He has 55 receptions for 710 yards and 4 touchdowns this season. But his receiver partner is the story of the season. The rookie playmaker has 96 catches for 1327 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Similar to Nacua, Kyren Williams is on fire. The Notre Dame graduate secured his first-ever 1000-yard season in just 10 games. But it’s the missed tackles that are the most impressive part. According to statistics, Williams forced more missed tackles than any Rams player going back to 2006. Since the days when his idol, Steven Jackson, was lighting up the league, no one has managed to replicate that feat.

It’s a great story, and it will be even greater if the Rams somehow squeeze into the playoffs. They currently sit in the 6th spot, between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Minnesota Vikings, both 7-7.
