The world could have seen both these legends together in one roster as they were both set to join the Tennessee Volunteers College Football team, but the plan didn’t succeed due to the issues in timing between the WR and the QB.

Moss recently appeared on the ‘ManningCast’ hosted by Peyton Manning and his brother Eli Manning for the Bucs-Saints game and the former Vikings WR revealed the whole incident that led to both Peyton and Randy joining two different teams.

“He wasn’t punctual, that was the reason I didn’t become a Volunteer. Peyton was late.” Moss stated on ManningCast. “When I went to Tennessee, all I heard was Peyton Manning was in Virginia at a family member’s house. He is trying to drive back just to recruit you. I was like, ‘Well, if he is driving here just to recruit me, why isn’t he here right now to get me?'”

It’s strange to think that the two legendary Hall of Famers weren’t able to play together due to such an insignificant reason. However, the former Colts QB had a reason why he wasn’t able to meet up with Moss on time.

Randy Moss and Peyton Manning were considered the shining jewels of College Football and it would have been incredible if these two were able to play together. Honestly, they would have shattered all the previous records held in college football.

However, life took a different turn as Manning wasn’t able to reach Moss in time and he left for Notre Dame instead of the Volunteers. Peyton stated that he was visiting his wife, Ashley, who studied at the University of Virginia and couldn’t make it back in time. However, the retired QB left at 3 am just to meet up with Ross and sway him in his direction.

“I said Randy, ‘We are going to throw it every play here,'” Peyton Manning added. “Three years you will be coming out to the NFL. He was not hearing it. He was headed for Notre Dame. I gave him my best pitch, though.”

Randy Moss should have taken up the offer by Peyton Manning as the WR wasn’t able to play at Notre Dame due to legal issues and then moved to Florida State for a short stint but managed to shine at the Marshall where he was a Heisman Trophy finalist with Manning.
