Former Baltimore Ravens running back, Ray Lewis suffered an irreparable personal loss recently, something that nobody should have to go through in their entire lifetime. On the 14th of June, Lewis’ son, Ray Lewis III, suffered an untimely death from an accidental drug overdose.
The 28-year-old college football star was found lying naked inside a room at about 5 pm in a house located in Casselberry, Orlando. In the room, he had two other friends, one of whom was trying to administer CPR on his unresponsive friend, and the other friend reportedly searched about for a medicine to undo the drug overdose.
Paramedics and the police arrived at the house, trying to make a final effort, but all of it was in vain, with the former college footballer eventually passing away. Almost two weeks after his death, Lewis’ father delivered an extremely emotional eulogium for his eldest son on the occasion of his memorial service at a church in Florida.
Ray Lewis spoke for the first time after the death of his son
In what is undoubtedly one of the toughest moments to deal for a father, Lewis emotionally recounted a few memories he had with his son, while thanking everyone present in the church for their support and love on the tragic day for their family. In his touching speech, the two-time Super Bowl winner with the Ravens vowed to meet with his son once again.
“We will see you again,“ said Lewis. “28 years, watching my first-born child… the referees thought I was crazy running up and down the sideline. Everybody that’s here in this room today for my son, from the deepest corners of my family’s heart, thank you.”
“My son used to always say to me, ‘Pops, let’s make today a good day.’ And today, now that I finally see my son’s physical body, you will make today a good day,” Lewis added, gesturing toward the sky.
Although Ray Lewis III never made it into the National Football League, he left a stirring impact on college football. He played for Miami Hurricanes Football, emulating his father, who was also a product of the same high school. However, he failed to carve out a niche for himself at Miami with inconsistent performances and eventually went on to play for Coastal Carolina Chanticleers and the Virginia Union Panthers.
