On Monday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, led by Baker Mayfield, went against the No.5 seeded Philadelphia Eagles in their wildcard matchup. The Eagles entered the game as road favorites but lost to the Bucs due to a poor outing. Many people, including the legendary former NFL linebacker Ray Lewis, couldn’t believe the poor effort of the Eagles, especially their secondary unit.
The Pro Football Hall of Famer Ray Lewis joined ESPN’s Manningcast and watched the game live with show hosts Peyton and Eli Manning. While watching the game, Lewis witnessed a 56-yard touchdown catch by the Buccaneers’ rookie wide receiver Trey Palmer and he couldn’t believe the Eagles’ failed attempt to bring him down.
With less than 2 minutes left in the third quarter, the Buccaneers held a 9-point lead and were facing a 2nd down and 6 from their own 44-yard line. Quarterback Baker Mayfield, who took the snap from the shotgun position, connected with rookie wideout Trey Palmer, who completed the catch near the 50-yard line.
As soon as Palmer completed the catch, he was met by the Eagles defensive back James Bradberry. But, Palmer broke that tackle and started to sprint to gain some more yards. He then went past 3 Eagles defenders to register a crucial 56-yard touchdown and extended the Buccaneers lead.
Lewis, who was witnessing the event unfold along with Peyton and Eli Manning couldn’t believe his eyes and was visibly disgusted by the Eagles’ secondary’s tackling efforts.
Ray Lewis explained what the Eagles defense did wrong against the Buccaneers
After watching the Eagles defensive unit’s poor performance defense against the Buccaneers on Monday, Ray Lewis went on to explain what they did wrong in the crucial game.
Practicing tackling everyday is based of angles. When you see the angles of these guys and the way they approach tackling is crazy. Like nobody plays together. Put them in a cup.Ray Lewis on the Manningcast
The former Baltimore Ravens linebacker basically said the Eagles were playing individual football and were not helping their teammates by cutting some angles.
If you put them guys in a cup, you are not gonna see big plays like this. But, everybody's playing individual football and that's insane to me man!Ray Lewis said
The Eagles defensive unit gave up many big plays on Monday because of their poor tackling. As a result, the Buccaneers scored with ease and managed to secure a dominating 32-9 victory against the defending NFC Champions.
