This year’s Super Bowl is being held in Las Vegas for the first time, but wagers on the major event are anticipated to increase outside of the city. When the Super Bowl comes to town, everyone wants a piece of the action, but there’s something different about the big game at this year’s Las Vegas edition.
According to research from the American Gaming Association, a record 67.8 million Americans, or roughly 26% of the nation’s adult population, are anticipated to bet an estimated $23.1 billion on Super Bowl LVIII between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers. Compared to the $16 billion estimate from the AGA’s 2023 research conducted ahead of Super Bowl LVII, that $23.1 billion represents a 35% increase.
AGA President and CEO Bill Miller said:
As the Super Bowl comes to Las Vegas for the first time, this year’s record interest in wagering marks a full circle moment for the U.S. gaming industry. Our priority remains getting this opportunity right by providing the consumer protections only a regulated market can guarantee and investing in responsible gambling tools, safeguards and education.Bill Miller said
The AFC Championship game saw the Chiefs defeat the Baltimore Ravens in front of the highest-ever viewership for an AFC title game, according to CBS. Since 1931, Sin City has welcomed sports bettors. However, with 38 states now allowing legal wagers, Sin City has transformed into a gambling buffet with an abundance of options for the gambler.
NFL analyst doesn’t believe that San Francisco 49ers are favored to win the Super Bowl
The Kansas City Chiefs are back in the Super Bowl after five seasons, and if they win the game, they may be recognized as the NFL’s next great team. However, despite the expertise of Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes, and Travis Kelce, national sportsbooks feel the NFC champion San Francisco 49ers are the slight favorites to win this game.
Ross Tucker, the former NFL offensive lineman turned analyst though, is very confused heading into the week before the big game at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Tucker said on Fescoe in the Morning:
How in the world are the 49ers favored in this game? The Chiefs, I felt like, were clearly the better team in all three of the playoff games – including at Buffalo and at Baltimore.Ross Tucker said
He further continued:
So, you’re telling me you’re going to say the Niners are the favorite? They’re like going off yards per play from the regular season, give me a break, bro. You’ve got to be kidding me. In a close game, you’re going to take Brock Purdy and Kyle Shanahan over Mahomes and Andy Reid? Yeah, not me. I’ve seen this movie too many times – I’m going to take the Chiefs.Ross Tucker added
While there is no denying that both of these teams are evenly matched, Mahomes will have the advantage of experience in the season finale, and this will be Purdy’s first trip to the Super Bowl. It will be a fascinating matchup.
