On Sunday, the Detroit Lions, led by their star quarterback Jared Goff, went against the NFC’s No. 6-seeded Los Angeles Rams in their wildcard game. The Rams ended up losing the game despite valiant efforts from quarterback Matthew Stafford and rookie wide receiver Puka Nacua.

Furthermore, some fans claimed that the referees in the game were favoring the Detroit-based football team due to some questionable calls. Especially, during the fourth quarter of the game, the Rams were facing a 1-point deficit and were looking to convert a 3rd down and 14.

During the crucial moment in the game, Stafford naturally targeted his number 1 wide receiver Puka Nacua, but the rookie wideout failed to bring down the ball, which resulted in an incomplete pass.

However, during the replay, it was obvious Nacua was held by the Lions’ defensive back Cameron Sutton before the rookie receiver went up for the ball. Check out the footage attached below.

The refs failed to call the holding penalty on Sutton and the Rams were forced to punt away the ball. Matthew Stafford never got the ball back and the Lions went on to register a 24-23 victory in a thrilling game. As a result, fans were convinced the officials favored the Lions throughout the game and basically handed them a victory.

The Rams fought hard, especially the rookie receiver Puka Nacua, who registered 181 receiving yards and 1 touchdown. He set the rookie record for most receiving yards registered in a playoff game.

Nonetheless, the Lions managed to register their first playoff victory in more than 3 decades and erased one of the biggest playoff victory droughts in the NFL‘s history. The last time, the Lions won a playoff game before Sunday was way back in 1991.

Nonetheless, the Lions have advanced to the second round of the postseason, where they will be facing the winner of Monday’s wildcard game between the NFC South champions, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Philadelphia Eagles.

On the flip side, the Rams have been officially eliminated from the postseason. Now they will focus on strengthening their team for the 2024 regular season.
