Did the officials play a hand in giving the Michigan Wolverines a win over the Washington Huskies in the college football finals? Football fans on Social media are positive that there were a few questionable calls during the game to provide Jim Harbaugh‘s men favorable outcomes.
Michigan came out of the blocks quickly through a Donovan Edwards 41 dash to the endzone and never looked back. The Huskies failed to match the tenacity of the Wolverines, and quarterback Michael Penix Jr.‘s rare off day became the catalyst for a 34-13 win for the Blues.

However, along the way, there were a couple of calls from the referee that irked the Washington fans. In one play, backup quarterback Alex Orji came on for a snap, replacing JJ McCarthy. After getting the ball from his center, Orji cut left, avoiding Washington players.
But a clip showed that his 6-foot-2 offensive lineman, Drake Nugent, stopped the on-rushing Huskies linebacker, Tuli Letuligasenoa. Nugent grabbed Letuligasenoa’s jersey, which gave Orji enough time to evade the challenge.

This wasn’t the only occasion where a choppy refereeing decision made things easier for Michigan. While trailing by a touchdown in the fourth quarter, Penix appeared to have thrown a dime from Washington 33 up to Michigan 35 to Rome Odunze for 32 yards.

The celebration was cut short because the referee threw a yellow. They adjudged Huskies right tackle Parker Brailsford was holding a Michigan player. Social media argue that officials were playing favoritism on the night. Considering head coach Harbaugh’s recent controversies, they were quick to point out that Michigan was cheating. Here are some of the alleged missed calls from the officials as per football fans on social media
Even a college football icon could not keep quiet. Heisman Trophy winner and former Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow wrote on X:

Nevertheless, Michigan won its first national championship since 1997 after going the entire 2023 season unbeaten. This was the first time in CFP history that a #1 seed defeated a #2 seed.
McCarthy finished the game with 10 of 18 completions for 140 yards and 4 carries for 31 yards. Both of Michigan’s running backs, Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards, crossed 100 yards. Corum had 21 carries for 134 yards and two touchdowns. Edwards had six carries for 104 yards and two touchdowns.
Penix ended his season and possibly his Huskies career with 27 completions from 55 attempted passes for 255 yards, 1 touchdown, and 2 interceptions. Odunze had 5 receptions for 87 yards.
The Huskies are leaving the PAC-12 after this season. They will be playing in the Big 10 the following season, so there will be two matches with Michigan every year.
