Patrick Mahomes rightly predicted that this week is going to be a wild one. Free agency day 1 so far has been a lot of blockbusters signing. The most notable one is veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo signing with the Las Vegas Raiders. After releasing Derek Carr, the Raiders were in the running for trading for Aaron Rodgers, but after the Jets were said to lock him, they took a different approach and acquired the second-best quarterback in free agency.

Additionally, the Falcons signed safety Jessie Bates III, Panthers cooped up Vonn Bell, and the 49ers signed a one-year deal with Sam Darnold. The biggest spender in Free Agency Day 1 history so far are the Denver Broncos, after they dropped a whopping $219.3 million half of which was used to bring in an elite offensive line to protect Russell Wilson.

With so many star players being taken off the board, Odell Beckham Jr. remains one of the few players who are at the top of their position. OBJ hasn’t played a single snap since he scored that touchdown in Super Bowl LVI. He has been a free agent for an entire season, but teams are now very much interested in acquiring the Pro Bowl wide receiver.

The Cowboys remain the top destination for Odell Beckham Jr.

Odell Beckham Jr. held a private workout for teams in Arizona last week and around ten teams were in attendance except for the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys were heavily pursuing the former first-round pick during the regular season, but nothing materialized. Although Dallas’ absence from the workout doesn’t mean they are skipping out on him. Owner and general manager of the Cowboys, Jerry Jones, spent some time with OBJ’s mother Heather Van Norman and learned a few interesting facts about her son.

The Cowboys remain as the front runners for signing Odell Beckham Jr. mainly because of Jerry Jones. NFL reporter Jane Slater appeared on The Rich Eisen Show and talked about the same in great detail. She said, “I have posed the question to a couple of my sources ‘Is he [OBJ] still in play?’ and I’m told Jerry Jones is pretty much driving the bus on this. If this deal gets done, this is Jerry and Jerry alone.”

Slater also added that head coach Mike McCarthy reached out to people who have been with Odell Beckham Jr., his previous coaches, and everyone has spoken very highly of him, which impressed the Super Bowl-winning coach. The Cowboys have hardly signed any free agents in the past couple of seasons, but after they gave away Amari Cooper, the receiving core has lacked a lot of juice and there is only so much CeeDee Lamb and do.

If the Cowboys are successful in welcoming OBJ on board, their offense will automatically get an upgrade and the superstar wide receiver knows that the team will be honored to have him play for them. But there might be an issue of money, as Dallas already has many free agents on their roster, including Dalton Schultz. They might not be able to offer the 30-year-old wide out the same amount other teams are willing to shell out.

It’ll be interesting to see which team lands in Beckham and how much of a fight Dallas puts up!
