“Retired too soon” Chris Carson hangs up his boots due to an unpleasant injury

The biggest foe for a professional athlete is injury. Many stars have retired prematurely just because of a career-ending injury. Chris Carson is the latest addition to the list. The young RB hung up his boots after failing to pass the physical due to a neck injury he suffered at the start of last season.

The decision was made after the Seahawks failed him in the physical leading up to the season. Seahawks released Carson with a failed physical designation on Tuesday, which allows the RB to receive injury protection benefits, as stated by NFL insider Ian Rapoport

Numerous players and fans took to Twitter to mourn the 27-year-old’s early retirement.

the Seattle Seahawks also posted a tribute for Chris as a goodbye.

Chris Carson was one of the most underrated players in the NFL, he had a relentless mentality that made him work hard than anyone else around him. He finished his career with 3,502 yards on 796 carries and 24 TDs

We’ll miss him and everything he brought to our program.”: Pete Carroll, Seahawks head coach on Chris Carson’s retirement

The 27-year-old could only manage to play four games before getting sidelined by the injury. The Seahawks head coach said in a statement “Ever since the first time I saw Chris on film, I loved his style, and I was thrilled when we were able to get him when we did, “To see him grow and become such an impacting part of our program with such a great style and all of that, it was a thrill to watch. We’ll miss him and everything he brought to our program.”

The young Seahawk was battling this injury the whole last season and was pretty optimistic about making it this but given the physical nature of the game and the severity of his injury, Carson decided to call it quits.

“It’s a big disappointment,” Seahawks general manager John Schneider said. “We took it as long as we possibly could with him, he saw several specialists, but unfortunately he wasn’t able to pass our physical.”

The Seahawks still have two RBs that can fill up the space created by the absence of Chris, with Rashaad Penny and rookie running back Kenneth Walker III. Now with the veteran retiring, it’s up to the new guys to keep the legacy and team alive.
