The Cincinnati Bengals led by Joe Burrow will be heading to the mid-west to take on the Kansas City Chiefs in the much anticipated AFC Championship game on Sunday. This will be the second consecutive year that the two teams will be fighting for the right to hoist the Lamar Hunt trophy. The Bengals defeated the Chiefs last season and advanced to the Super Bowl, where they eventually lost to the Los Angeles Rams.
However, this season, it will be tough for them to defeat the Chiefs in their home stadium since the Kansas-based franchise has gotten better on their defensive side of the football despite losing one of the best defensive backs in the league Tyrann Mathieu. Their rookie first-rounders DE George Karlaftis and DB Trent McDuffie have shown great promises under the mentorship of their defensive leader DT Chris Jones, who is having his best season with the Chiefs so far. As for their offense, they’re totally dependent on Patrick Mahomes and their star TE Travis Kelce and if Mahomes is not his 100%, it could be a long day for the Chiefs Kingdom.
On the other hand, the Bengals are riding with high confidence. They are on a 10-game winning streak, including a totally dominating performance against the pre-season Super Bowl favorites Buffalo Bills. They have offensive weapons all around the field led by their star, WR Ja’Marr Chase, and RB Joe Mixon. In addition to that, they have a defense led by DE Trey Hendrickson that can go toe-to-toe with any offense in the league on any given Sunday.
Rich Gannon compares Joe Burrow to Peyton Manning and Joe Montana
This game will be really tough for either team to come out on top, but former Super Bowl Champion Rich Gannon believes Joe Burrow will dominate the Chiefs at Arrowhead on Sunday. While speaking on the AP Pro Football podcast, the former Raiders QB compared Burrow to Peyton Manning and Joe Montana before saying that he is the key to the Bengals‘ success.
“There’s a couple (of) players, that are really just so unique, I mean Joe Montana… Peyton Manning, leaving Indianapolis and going to Denver,” said Gannon.“I just think that they feel like they’ve got something special, their quarterback that has that “it” factor. He has so many of the qualities and the intangibles that you love at that position. I think one of them is confidence and it’s not arrogance, but it’s his confidence.”
“This guy, he just marches to the beat of a different drummer, going to Arrowhead, going up against that defense, going up against Patrick Mahomes. Trust me, Joe Burrow isn’t going to blink. This is right up his alley. He is going to play well on Sunday,” said Gannon about Burrow.
Nevertheless, Joe Burrow will certainly look to play his best game to help his team to beat the powerhouse Kansas City Chiefs in the Conference Championship game on Sunday.
