There’s usually a calm aura surrounding former NFL cornerback Richard Sherman. But even circumstances can get the best of the coolest of minds. On Saturday night, the former Seattle Seahawks star was arrested by the Washington State Patrol for driving under the influence.

Court records showed Trooper Jordan Hazzard-Thomas, who helped respond to the traffic stop, questioned Sherman after stopping his car. Thomas revealed, noticing “the odor of intoxicants.” His eyes also appeared to be “bloodshot and watery.”

Is Richard Sherman a routine offender?

This wasn’t the only documented alleged law-breaking incident in the 35-year-old’s history. Three years ago, police arrested Richard Sherman outside of his in-laws’ house in Redmond. He faced charges of driving under the influence and domestic violence-related misdemeanors.

The police statement revealed that he crashed an SUV at a construction site, trying to break into his suburban Seattle household. His father-in-law, Raymond Moss, had to arm himself with a gun and a pepper spray to keep himself safe.

Sherman later apologized for his mistake, saying he was deeply remorseful for his actions. He eventually pleaded guilty to negligent driving and second-degree criminal trespass. As a result, he avoided jail time.

Richard Sherman’s football career

Sherman has been a brilliant student since his high school days. He graduated from Dominguez High School in Compton, California, with his peers voting him the “male student most likely to succeed.” Later, he studied at Stanford University, pursuing a degree in communications.

While he was bringing in numbers like a 4.2 GPA, Sherman was making waves on the football field. Initially, he started out as a wide receiver for the first three college seasons, later switching to the cornerback spot.

The Seattle Seahawks selected Sherman in the 5th round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He spent 11 years in the NFL, playing for the San Francisco 49ers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, besides the Seahawks.

With the Seahawks, Richard Sherman went to two Super Bowls as part of the ‘Legion of Boom‘, winning the one in 2013. He amassed five Pro Bowl nods along with three All-Pro accolades.
