The Kansas City Chiefs have won the Super Bowl LVII against the Philadelphia Eagles, winning their third Lombardi Trophy in the process. The Chiefs won by a 38-35 margin, in what turned out to be an exceptional comeback from the Kansas-based franchise.

As the scoreline suggests, the game went all the way down to the wire with the Chiefs nicking it in the end. The Chiefs did so with a bit of help from the NFL officials, which has been the general perception after the game.

Eagles cornerback James Bradberry earned his side a penalty after he was adjudged to have held JuJu Smith-Schuster with only 1:54 minutes left on the clock. The penalty helped the Chiefs run down the clock with consummate ease, as they scored a field goal with only 8 seconds remaining in the game.

The call to award a penalty against Bradberry has received plenty of attention since the game. Former Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman was among those, who simply didn’t understand the decision. Sherman felt that in a game of this stature, a debatable call should have been avoided given the fact that it alters the end result.

“If the call’s debatable, you do not call it,” Sherman said on The Volume Sports. “In the National Football League, in the Super Bowl, if the call can be debated after, you do not make the call. New York should’ve called down and said, ‘Hey, wave that off. We’re not letting the game be determined like this.’ And they did not and that’s two mistakes in one play.

“Instead, we sit there and watch them run the clock out and kick a field goal. It just doesn’t feel right.”

The Eagles might feel hard done by, but the man in question, James Bradberry did eventually admit to having held onto Smith-Schuster’s shirt putting some light on that incident.

A controversial decision like the one against Bradberry also made fans from across the world wonder whether the NFL is actually rigged, a theory that has been floated around various times in the past.
