The New England Patriots were supposed to roll over against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Instead, they fought and pulled off an impressive win against their division rivals. It was a great game, with the Patriots pouncing on every opportunity that was given to them. Their QB, Mac Jones, pulled off an incredible game-winning drive as the Bills faltered in the later stages of the game.
With this win, the Pats have now improved to 2-5. Although it was an important victory, they are still a long way away from competing with the elite teams in the league.
They lost five games in six weeks before their win against the Bills. Former NFL player and current analyst Richard Sherman believes that the Patriots are still irrelevant, despite their win over the Bills.
The offensive and defensive lines for the New England Patriots bullied yesterday. They were more physical throughout the game. Especially in the red zone, goal line situations where you saw a lot of flapjacks out there, a lot of pancakes. That is coaching. That's effort and attitude.Sherman said on Fox Sports‘ Undisputed Show
These came in motivated, they won the game. Good for them. They have a long season ahead of them and I just don't see them making the playoffs and I don't see them being relevant in the end.
The Patriots were once the gold standard of the NFL. They won six Super Bowls since 2000 and were the perennial contenders of the NFL. However, since 2020, the Patriots have made the playoffs only once and have been struggling in recent years. They hope to get back to the same heights in the future.
Bill Belichick thought the officiating of the Buffalo Bills-New England Patriots game was a bit odd
The Buffalo Bills-New England Patriots game on Sunday was the best game of the weekend. It had everything. The Patriots eventually came out on top with a game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter. Patriots HC Bill Belichick, however, thought the officiating during the game was a bit weird.
You’d have to ask Clete about some of those. Throwing flags, picking them up, throwing them late and whatever. It was just kind of an unusual game the way some of the penalties were called all the way around.Belichick said in a video conference on Monday
The Patriots are 2-5 through seven weeks and are nowhere near the playoff picture. However, they will hope to build on their win against the Bills in their upcoming games, starting with the Miami Dolphins next Sunday.
