With an abysmal 3-5 this season, the Las Vegas Raiders‘ owner finally took the final step of firing the head coach Josh McDaniels, and general manager Dave Ziegler, last Tuesday night. It happened after the team’s bizarre play against the Detroit Lions at 26-14 in front of the national audience.
However the Raiders still have nine games remaining this season, owner Mark Davis promoted linebackers coach Antonio Pierce and assistant general manager Champ Kelly as interim head coach and general manager, respectively. In the official statement by the team, they mentioned that the franchise is “committed to undergo a comprehensive search” for the head coach and GM after this season.
With that in reference, there have been many speculations about who could best replace McDaniels and lead the team to the playoffs. Among many, former cornerback and current NFL analyst Richard Sherman has someone in mind, who deserves the shot at this — Raiders head coach.
During the latest episode of Undisputed, Sherman was having a discussion with analyst Skip Bayless about ‘who should be the next head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders?’ Sherman said:
I want to say, Eric Bieniemy..but I don't want the situation for Eric Bieniemy. Because there are a lot of things that need to be fixed first.Richard Sherman on Undisputed
Sherman might be right as Washington Commanders’ Beiniemy was a big name last season and he is also in speculation to be the Raiders head coach. With him as head coach, and strong offensive weapons like Davante Adams and Josh Jacob, with the quarterback of Beiniemy choice, Raiders can build an unstoppable offense for the future.
NFL Analyst Sherman believes Beiniemy deserves a shot, as he concluded his point by saying:
I would say Eric Bieniemy deserves a shot, this would be as good of a shot as any. It's about time.
What the Raiders need to learn from Richard Sherman’s advice
Richard Sherman believes Beiniemy is the right candidate for the Raiders’ head coach for the future, but he seems unsure whether Commander OC should go with the Raiders or not, saying:
I don't want the situation for Eric Bieniemy.
By ‘situation’ he means, that the Raiders under McDaniels developed quite a handful of issues that they need to fix first, then move on to the next coach. That responsibility fell into the hands of the interim head coach Pierce.
Sherman added:
You got some good players, but you don't know what you are going to do with Josh Jacobs. You seem to have a solid offensive line. You got Davante Adams but you got a lot of unhappy guys. Your defense plays pretty solid…so I am saying that there are pieces that a good coach can turn it into a playoff team.
However, the former cornerback believes that as the head coach McDaniels is gone now, as well as general manager Ziegler, the team would get a fair chance to build coordination again and work as a team.
