Under the combination of head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady, the New England Patriots were a dynasty for nearly two decades. During their time together they won 6 Super Bowl rings. However, their tenure was filled with several controversies, including the infamous deflategate scandal. And now, nearly a decade after the scandal, the former Patriots receiving duo Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman opens up about it.

During a recent episode of Julian Edelman’s Games with Names podcast, the Patriots legendary tight end Rob Gronkowski joined the show and went on a rant about his hatred for the Indianapolis Colts, who accused the Patriots of deflating footballs.

The deflategate scandal became a big issue after the Colts accused the Patriots of deflating the footballs following their loss in the 2014 AFC Championship game. But, Gronk believes the issue started when the Patriots defeated the Colts during a regular season game earlier.

The 3-time Super Bowl champion Julian Edelman also agreed with Gronk’s sentiments that the Colts just made an excuse for their defeat instead of being a good sport about it. Furthermore, the iconic tight end also hilariously backed his quarterback Tom Brady.

While talking about the infamous deflategate scandal the 4-time All-Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski hilariously backed his quarterback and best friend Tom Brady.

Gronkowski said

Edelman jokingly said that Brady ‘fed’ them since the trio played together for so long in New England and won multiple Super Bowls together. Gronk also joined in on the joke.

Exactly, that's why we can have this cameras around, because we can afford them. Tom fed us!

Nonetheless, even though now many people see the deflategate scandal as a big nothingburger, at the time, it was a big controversy and Brady’s legacy was questioned by many experts.

He was suspended for 4 games the following season and the Patriots lost 2 draft picks. Brady served the 4-game suspension to start the season and led his team to a massive 25-point comeback in the Super Bowl and won the championship to end that season.
