“Another Antonio Brown situation?” Panthers WR Robbie Anderson kicked out of the Panthers-Rams game by HC Steve Wilks
Robbie Anderson is turning out to be a liability in the Panthers squad and his recent antics are proof of that. Since the dismissal of HC Matt Rhule, the Panthers have started to clean shop and get rid of many big-name players who don’t fit the style deployed by new HC Steve Wilks.
29-year-old Robbie Anderson is one of those names who is being shopped around a lot to get a potential trade. Anderson didn’t manage to get a single catch in the 4th quarter against the Rams and was also seen sitting away from the team while on the sidelines.
Although a player is allowed to sit alone on the sidelines, things escalated when Robbie Anderson decided to get into an argument with the Panthers WR coach that was quickly turning into a fight but HC Steve Wilks jumped in and quickly ejected the Panthers WR.
Anderson was looking clueless while making his way back to the locker room as he stated he had no idea why he was being sent out of the field.
“I was honestly confused,” Robbie Anderson said after the game. “I wanted to be in the game. I’ve never had somebody yell to get out of the game. So I was honestly confused and upset by that.”
“I should be. I don’t see nobody that is a true competitor, that knows the value they bring and has true passion for the game, that will be OK with being told not to do something or being taken out of something when they didn’t do nothing wrong.”
“No one is bigger than the team:” Panthers HC Steve Wilks defended his decision of removing Robbie Anderson from the game
Football is a team sport and one needs to have complete trust and belief in their teammates and coaches to succeed in the NFL. When a player like Robbie Anderson argues with the coaches it gives a clear indication of a lack of chemistry in the team that can be further weaponized by the opposing team.
When HC Steve Wilks was asked about his decision to remove Anderson, he quickly defended it by saying that no one is bigger than the team. “No one is bigger than the team,” Steve Wilks said. “I’m not going to focus and put a lot of attention on one individual.”
Robbie Anderson is also not putting up a performance on the field that can be defended. Ever since signing his new 2-year contract extension, Anderson’s game has measurably worsened. Anderson merely got 500 receiving yards in the whole last season and has also openly criticized their new signing QB, Baker Mayfield.
The Panthers are currently in crisis as their HC was recently fired, QB Baker Mayfield is not performing and there’s also the Robbie Anderson drama that may have played a part in their defeat to the Rams on Sunday.
