Halfway into the 2023 season, Josh McDaniels has been relieved of his duties as the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. A string of names has been circulating on the lips of several analysts and gridiron experts regarding who should be the one to fill the vacant position. Robert Griffin III threw Marshawn Lynch‘s name into the mix.

Talk about a left-field shout from the Washington Commanders quarterback turned football analyst. Throwing in Lynch’s name is one thing, but vigorously defending his suggestion is another. He argued that the Super Bowl winner should “at least” deserve an interview as the franchise aims to capture the “Raider Way” of old.

Alright…hear me out. Marshawn Lynch should AT LEAST get a HEAD COACH interview with the Raiders this off-season.

Lynch did spend a couple of seasons with the Raiders, based in Oakland, late in his career. So RG3 believes that the retired running back is familiar with the franchise’s philosophy, provided they surround him with quality coaches to make life easier.

He added:

Lean into the Raider way; the team becomes feared with his style and mentality. Load up his staff with experience and proven coordinators.

Then a short question asking his followers’ approval:

Who says no?

Robert Griffin III faced heat for suggesting Marshawn Lynch’s name for the Raiders head coach job

Social media was quick to point out that RG3 was opposed to the Indianapolis Colts hiring his good friend and ESPN colleague Jeff Saturday as their interim coach back in 2022. He did have a valid point that the Super Bowl-winning center has only ever managed high school teams and has no NFL experience. It’s the same with Lynch, who is an infant when it comes to coaching.

They accused Griffin of being inconsistent with his suggestions. But he turned the onus back on the naysayers.

RG3 replied:

All conversations have nuance to them, and context and timing matter. If you want to boil it down to the color of someone’s skin, then you are the problem.

That being said, it’s not exactly the smartest of moves. Marshawn Lynch is a very recognized face due to his Amazon Prime NFL coverage. The 37-year-old is like a brand ambassador for the OTT platform who goes around the length and breadth of the country and seeks out interesting facts while indulging in the local culture.

He has visited the Amish country in Minneapolis to learn about their way of life. Sometimes one may see him present during matchdays inside the stadium conversing with players.
