The feud between Robert Griffin III and his former head coach, Jay Gruden, took an interesting turn on Thursday night. Gruden went onto the local radio and claimed that the coaching staff of the old Washington Redskins were losing faith in RG3 following his ACL tear.

Not only that, he also threw in Kirk Cousins name, who succeeded Griffin in Washington. According to Gruden, Cousins fit into the system they were trying to build. More or less, he tried to imply that they had found the guy to lead them into the future.

The online bickering between the two began during the Eagles vs. Buccaneers wild card game. While witnessing Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts struggling to cope with the Bucs’ blitz, Gruden tweeted that he would apologize to the quarterback if he were the coach. RG3 was unimpressed with the statement.

It appears that he still has a lingering dissatisfaction with how his tenure with the Redskins, now Washington Commanders, ended in 2014. The 33-year-old, who is now an analyst with ESPN and also hosts a podcast, fired back with a video message addressed to Gruden.

Griffin recalled a press conference from 2014 where he claimed that Gruden “undressed” him after their loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

I had to eat that for a long time. Because Jay [Gruden] didn't back me in the media the next day, he doubled down on it and actually picked me apart in the media. A coach should never undress his starting quarterback.

Robert Griffin III threw an open challenge at Jay Gruden

Similar to RG3, 56-year-old Jay Gruden is no longer actively associated with coaching a football team. His last head coaching role was with the Commanders, who fired him in 2019. Then he bounced around from the Jacksonville Jaguars to the Las Vegas Raiders as their consultant. These days, he spends most of his time appearing on The 33rd Team and on his Taking the Points Show podcast.

Anyway, back to Griffin, who isn’t willing to end the online war of words. He issued an open invitation to Jay Gruden to appear on his podcast, “RG3 and the Ones.”

The pro-bowler wants to set the score straight once and for all. Not just that, he will release some juicy inside knowledge from their Washington days.

For 10 years, I haven't talked about it. Now we're talking about it. So if you keep going, I'm just letting you know right now. Don't play with me. I will absolutely end any credibility that you did have, let alone with that last name. I know where all the bodies are buried.

Now the ball is in Gruden’s court. Whether he chooses to have a face-off with Robert Griffin III is still up in the air. But if he does, then there will definitely be a few massive revelations.
