Football analysts are still arguing over who to blame for Russell Wilson‘s failed stint with the Denver Broncos. While Booger McFarland put Wilson on the pedestal, his Get Up colleague on ESPN, Robert Griffin III, defended the 35-year-old.
During a recent segment of ESPN’s morning show following Wilson’s release from the Broncos, Griffin and McFarland discussed what went wrong at Mile High. Being a former quarterback himself, RG3 chose to side with Wilson.
Griffin claimed that the Broncos did not provide enough tools around the nine-time Pro Bowler to make any significant difference in Denver. Not only that but from the coaching staff to the general manager, they were inexperienced in how to plan things.
When you bring in a quarterback of that caliber and you cater it to him, you have to fully cater it to him. Not put him on offense with a first-time head coach [Nathaniel Hackett], a first-time play caller, a first-time GM [George Paton], and a young team.RG3 ranted
It was fine until then but what came next from RG3’s mouth was a big no-no for live TV.
[You] expect him to make chicken out of chicken s**t?
He should count his chickens lucky because the network doesn’t tolerate cussing. More so because this wasn’t the first occasion he had a slip-up. Giving the reason for the accidental expletive utterance, Griffin trolled the Broncos again on X.
The Denver Broncos wanted Russell Wilson to make Chicken Salad out of Chicken S**t. Conversation got so heated I forgot the salad just like the Broncos forgot to fully support Russell Wilson.Griffin via X
Anyway, Griffin still has faith in the Super Bowl winner. He was adamant that if Russell Wilson walks into a well-drilled side, he can still take them to a deep postseason run. A couple of seasons shouldn’t define his career.
Russell Wilson is looking forward to the next chapter
It became crystal clear that the Denver Broncos would part ways with Russell Wilson when they benched him with two games to go last season so that they could avoid paying him in 2024. The Broncos front office met with the former Seahawks shot caller, urging him to make changes to his contract, which he refused, hence the demotion.
Earlier this week, they decided to cut him entirely before the new league year begins on March 13. Following the news of his release, Wilson, who remains active on social media, posting motivational quotes, thanked the Denver community in a heartfelt post.
Over these last two years, you have welcomed my family and me with open arms and have embraced us as members of the Denver community. This city will always hold a special place in my heart. Our family grew here, we made countless memories and friendships, and we formed relationships that will last a lifetime.Wilson wrote on X (formerly Twitter)
The rumor of his departure started to churn after sources close to Wilson revealed that he was looking to sell his Denver mansion. Now that he is a free agent, analysts have projected that he will either end up with the Atlanta Falcons or the Pittsburgh Steelers next season.
