It seems that Robert Griffin III has become a fan of Brock Purdy. The former signal caller shared a massive take about Purdy on his podcast. He claimed Purdy was the best quarterback in the NFL 2023-24 season, putting him over the likes of Lamar Jackson, who won the MVP and Patrick Mahomes who led his team to a Super Bowl. He also elaborated on why he put Purdy over others.
Griffin said on RG3 and The Ones:
When we look at it from a big-picture standpoint, most quarterbacks have guys and they're surrounded with extreme talent when they win. It just so happens that because Brock Purdy is Mr. Irrelevant and was the last pick in the draft, people are very slow to accept the fact that he was the best quarterback in the NFL this year.Robert Griffin III said
This season, Purdy had been subjected to a few criticisms. One of those came when the former signal caller Cam Newton stated that he was a game manager and not a game changer. RG III addressed the issue as well.
Here is what he had to say:
There's no way you come away from that game [Super Bowl LVIII] and you say, 'Oh yeah, he's just a game manager. There wasn't any moment in the game when you said to yourself, 'He can't compete at this level.' There wasn't any moment in the season, in totality, where you said, 'Brock Purdy just can't get it done.Robert Griffin III added
His favoritism over Purdy did not sit well with the fans. The analyst was subjected to some heat after he came up with this alleged controversial remark.
Fans nearly disown Robert Griffin III after the remark
Fans disapproved of what Robert Griffin III stated about Brock Purdy. Though they did appreciate what Purdy did throughout the season, they rejected Purdy as being the best quarterback and better than Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson.
RG III though left no stone unturned to prove his point. Explaining further about Purdy’s greatness, the former QB said:
That's just by the numbers. You're talking about first in QBR, first in passer rating, first in touchdown percentage and first in EPA per play. The list goes on and on of what Brock Purdy was able to accomplish, and it wasn't just the scheme … if he's always throwing to wide-open people, why is he first in the NFL in tight-window throws?Robert Griffin III said
However, the fans did not get convinced by what RG III claimed. They filled Twitter with comments against his opinion. Check out some of the comments that they made:
Purdy has an unfinished dream now. He will strive to win the Super Bowl in the coming season.
