A lot of questions have started circling around Bill Belichick‘s coaching decisions after the New England Patriots had a horrendous start to the tournament. The Patriots won just one game and lost three which created a lot of pressure on the head coach. In addition to this, the quarterback Mac Jones is also suffering from poor form. Hence, the team is in trouble now.
A lot of analysts already raised figures at Bill Belichick. The latest to join the Bandwagon is Robert Griffin III who directly raised figures at Belichick’s coaching decisions to use his quarterback. The former player and the present-day analyst blasted the veteran coach in one of the episodes of the show, ‘ Get Up.’
“For me, this comes down to coaching. In year two, Bill Belichick messed up his young quarterback,” Griffin said. “When you give him a defensive coordinator and a special teams coordinator as his offensive coordinator, and now he’s on his third offensive coordinator in three years in the NFL, that to me is the epitome of a coaching malpractice,” he added.
Surprisingly, the former QB did not denounce the fact that Belichick is arguably the best coach in the history of this league. He acknowledged it and also raised his point that despite being one of the best he is making these mistakes that are causing trouble to his team.
“He really overthought this, and it’s hurt Mac Jones permanently in my opinion,” Griffin said. A lot of questions have already been raised about Belichick’s effort as his team, the New England Patriots, has not won a single Super Bowl title since the legendary QB Tom Brady left. These questions are getting intensified with time as the team is performing poorly.
Mac Jones’ performance this season
Mac Jones was poor against the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday. He was intercepted thrice by the Cowboys’ defense and hardly had any impact on the game. The Patriots only gathered three points in the game and lost it badly.

According to Griffin, the problem with Jones is occurring due to Belichick’s poor strategy of using the player. Despite not being a creator, he is forcing Jones to play as a creator. “Mac Jones is not a creator, but they’re asking him to create. That’s a scheme problem. When you look at what he did in 2021, he led the No. 6 ranked offense in the NFL. Who was his coordinator? Josh McDaniels, right? One of the best OCs we’ve ever seen in this league,” noted Griffin.
Overall, the quarterback completed 93 passes on his 146 attempts. He covered 846 passing yards and registered five touchdowns. The player was intercepted multiple times in the league.
