The Las Vegas Raiders are in the market for a new quarterback after deciding to move on from their former franchise QB Derek Carr. According to reports the Raiders were trying to acquire Tom Brady in free agency but he decided to retire which must’ve messed up the Raiders’ plans. And now, they’re being heavily linked with the Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, however, the former Washington QB Robert Griffin III suggests Josh McDaniels get either Mac Jones or Jimmy Garoppolo citing their Patriots connection.
During a recent episode of NFL Live on ESPN, Robert Griffin III talked about the Raiders’ quarterback situation and how their second-year head coach Josh McDaniels will handle it. “Josh McDaniels does not want to play love is blind, he loves what he knows that’s why he brought Jarrett Stidham with him from the Patriots,” said Griffin.
Furthermore, Griffin went on to claim that the 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo might be an option for the Raiders but he also said that they should consider trading for the Patriots QB Mac Jones. “Jimmy G is an option, but if he picks up that telephone, and he calls Bill Belichick, will Mac Jones be available for him to trade and bring to Las Vegas with him?” wondered Griffin before continuing to explain why he thinks the Raiders should consider trading for Mac Jones.
Robert Griffin III believes the Raiders HC Josh McDaniels should reunite with Mac Jones
The former one-time Pro Bowler Robert Griffin III believes that the Patriots connection between the Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels and QB Mac Jones might work out in favor of the Las Vegas-based football team.
“They both had a lot of success together, obviously, in Mac Jones’ rookie year. Josh McDaniels really likes his guys because it doesn’t make sense they got rid of Derek Carr without actually having a plan on someone to go get,” said Griffin about McDaniels and Mac Jones.
Furthermore, he also suggested that Jimmy Garoppolo could be a good bridge quarterback for the Raiders. “For the Raiders, look at Mac Jones, maybe Jimmy Garoppolo — those could be bridge guys for them for the next two or three years,” Griffin III added.
The Raiders have a lot of holes to fill in their roster, they have a massive need for a defensive line and linebackers unit. So, getting a QB on a rookie deal might be the best solution for them right now. With that in mind, they should definitely consider the Patriots’ QB Mac Jones instead of an expensive QB like Aaron Rodgers.
