Robert Griffin III fears the worst for Dak Prescott as the Dallas Cowboys trade Trey Lance. Being a former quarterback himself, Griffin is aware of how much pressure they have to go through.
He knows that being the face of America’s team means that Prescott has the spotlight on him all the time. The 30-year-old is regularly the subject of criticism on almost every sports talk show that airs. Analysts love to scrutinize every little mistake that they can find related to Dak Prescott. Now that the Cowboys have traded for Trey Lance, the two-time Pro Bowler’s hot seat will feel like an inferno.
Earlier today, the San Francisco 49ers announced that they were offloading Lance to Dallas for a 2024 fourth-round pick. Robert Griffin III said that now the media will have more excuses to criticize Prescott.
“Dak Prescott is the most scrutinized QB in the NFL,” he wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter). “Trading for Trey Lance will only give people an excuse to scrutinize even more.”
This coincides with another ESPN contributor, Mike Greening, who said the same just a couple of days ago. “I recognize that our show is part of the ‘oh my god! We talk so much about Dak Prescott,” he said in a segment of Get Up. “We do it because it’s an endlessly interesting topic, and we do not scrutinize every quarterback in the NFL the way we do him.”

How does Trey Lance’s trade impact Dak Prescott?
While some may believe that Dak Prescott is untouchable at the Dallas Cowboys considering how much Jerry Jones values him, that is not the case. At the end of the day, it’s still a business venture for him. He is desperate to see some success after a Super Bowl drought that stretches back to the Troy Aikman era.
Prescott recently turned 30 and is coming off another injury-hit season, an indicator of physical decline. His focus on playing in the pocket rather than finding space and rushing like the old days is a sign he is looking to protect himself. Besides, his awful interception record is a dark spot that won’t go away easily.
This situation is quite similar to that of Tony Romo, who regularly threw interceptions. In the end, a rookie quarterback replaced the former Cowboys, and it was Dak Prescott. Trey Lance’s addition may signal danger for him, but the 23-year-old is nowhere near his level. At least not yet, but he can learn a lot from the 2016 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
