Gunfire broke out during the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade, turning what was supposed to be a day of celebration for the team and its supporters into a nightmare in a matter of seconds.
Robert Griffin III, an ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback, has discussed the tragic event and raised concerns about the safety of America in the modern era. Shortly after the parade and rally concluded, there was a shooting that resulted in over twenty injuries and the deaths of at least one person.
The incident has sparked new discussions about gun violence in the nation and sent shockwaves throughout the community. Griffin expressed his shock at the needless violence that has all too often become the norm in today’s society after giving some thought to the incidents.
Kids can't go to school. Believers can't go to church. Families can't go to the grocery store. Friends can't go to a concert. And now fans can't go to a SUPER BOWL PARADE without the real fear of being a part of a mass shooting in America. WHAT ARE WE DOING?He wrote on Twitter.
Griffin persisted in demanding action and emphasized that mass shootings should not be a political issue.
Put the politics aside, work TOGETHER and pass laws to ensure we are no longer known as the land of mass shootings. He further wrote on his Twitter.
Griffin’s NFL career may not have gone as planned, but he still has a powerful voice because of the issues he raises that impact communities all over the nation.
Kansas City shooting claims the life of one person as chaos ensues after the Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade
Following the parade and celebration of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory, a shooting incident ensued, which resulted in one fatality and at least twenty-one injuries from gunshots, authorities reported on Wednesday.
According to Kansas City police, the shooting happened outside the garage, west of Union Station, as Chiefs supporters were leaving. After the rally, according to paradegoer Arnold Sauther, the Chiefs entered Union Station, and fans trailed after the players to sign autographs.
Then, all of a sudden they all started running out, and you see all these policemen come running in there -- and you knew something happened in the station.Sauther told KMBC.
According to Interim Kansas City Fire Chief Ross Grundyson, eight gunshot victims had “immediately” life-threatening injuries, and seven others had injuries that could be fatal. The victims were taken to multiple hospitals in the vicinity.
The Chiefs were celebrating their third Super Bowl win in the last five years. They have been one of the best teams in the league in recent years, and they have held two parades before. However, this was the first time a mass shooting took place during the parade, and that has left the entire country in shock.
